This set of experiments is suggested to simulate the radiative transfer regime in both the red and near infra-red spectral bands for structurally heterogeneous scenes, of large spatial extend, featuring tree architectures and spectral properties that reflect those of typical coniferous forests.

Two types of scenes are to be generated:

• a scene having variable topography that features conical tree crown representations (of fixed dimensions) distributed uniformly over a Gaussian shaped hill surface, and
• a reference scene without topography, that contains identical shapes, sizes and numbers of trees as case 1, but where the trees are distributed uniformly over a flat background surface instead.
